Graves by Katelyn Taylor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Graves by Katelyn Taylor is a gripping, dark romance that will captivate you from the very first page. As a fan of Taylor’s work, I was beyond thrilled to dive into this new story, and it did not disappoint. The book is a thrilling exploration of love, obsession, and the lengths people will go to possess what they desire.
Let’s start with Zayden! A classic example of the charismatic, unhinged anti-hero, Zayden is intensely possessive and driven by an all-consuming love for Blake. His unpredictable nature and the depth of his obsession make him a fascinating character. I found myself particularly drawn to his darker aspects, which Taylor masterfully balances with moments of vulnerability.
Without giving too much away, the moment when Zayden gives Blake a significant gift is a pivotal point in the story. It beautifully encapsulates his complex feelings for her and serves as a turning point in their relationship. As twisted as this scene was, I absolutely adored his support in trying to help Blake heal. This scene is where I truly fell in love with Zayden’s character, and it’s a testament to Taylor’s skill in crafting emotionally charged moments.
Enter Zayden’s twin brother, Dominic. The more level-headed of the two, Dominic’s internal conflict between his loyalty to Zayden and his growing feelings for Blake adds a rich layer to the narrative. His protective instincts and the forbidden nature of his love for Blake make his character incredibly compelling.
At the center of this emotional storm, Blake’s character is well-crafted, with enough mystery and strength to hold her own against the powerful forces surrounding her. Her interactions with the twins and her own journey of understanding and navigating their complex dynamics are central to the story’s appeal.
The relationship between Zayden and Dominic is fraught with tension, loyalty, and competition. Their twin bond adds a unique twist to the typical love triangle, making their interactions both heart-wrenching and electrifying.
I am truly a sucker for a good trauma bond. The shared traumatic past of the characters binds them together and adds depth to their relationships. Taylor handles their trauma with sensitivity, weaving it into the fabric of their personalities and their connections with each other.
Graves is a dark, intense, and beautifully written novel that explores the depths of love, obsession, and the bonds that tie us together. Katelyn Taylor has once again proven her talent for creating complex characters and emotionally charged stories. If you enjoy dark romances with unhinged yet captivating heroes, a strong love triangle, and themes of trauma and healing, this book is an absolute must-read.
As someone who adores Katelyn Taylor’s work, I am ecstatic to be part of her team and cannot wait to see what she writes next. Graves is a masterful addition to her repertoire and a testament to her storytelling prowess.
