Budget Batman and Blunder Barbie will steal your hearts!

Leather & Lark (The Ruinous Love Trilogy, #2)Leather & Lark by Brynne Weaver
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

So… my enamor for Brynne’s work started way before her Ruinous Love trilogy hit the shelves, and let me tell you, she just keeps getting better. Her attention to detail, especially when it comes to the chaos and carnage surrounding her characters, is mind-blowing. I don’t know how she does it, but I’m here for it. Plus, her vocabulary is like a treasure trove of new words. I’m always discovering terms I’ve never heard before, and it has been quite refreshing.

When “Leather and Lark” fell on my lap, I literally screamed. I couldn’t wait to dive in. Already a fan of Rowan and Sloane, I knew I’d fall for their friends too. The way Brynne manages cross-character interactions without stealing the spotlight from Lachlan and Lark is pure genius.
Their dynamic is mesmerizing: she, a beacon of light with hidden depths of trauma, and he, the brooding, enigmatic mercenary.

Lachlan and Lark are such a perfect pair. She’s a ray of sunshine with a side of serial depletion, while he’s the grumpy, mysterious mercenary. Lark is so relatable for anyone with a history of trauma, from her social masking to her secretive nature. She’s fiercely loyal to her loved ones, and it’s beautiful to witness.

Lachlan, aka “Budget Batman,” starts off as a real grump (even back in B&B). But getting to see his softer, “gooey” side was a treat. I love how he opens up to Lark first, realizing he was so wrong about her being a “Blunder Barbie.” She’s got so much depth, and he’s ready to dive right in by the end of the book.

Side note: Holy plot twist, Batman! I was dying—but no spoilers here.

This book is an absolute gem. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to throw my book (in the best way possible). Brynne Weaver has done it again, and if you haven’t picked up The Ruinous Love Trilogy yet, what are you waiting for? Jump in and get ready to fall in love; I cannot wait for book 3, Scythe and Sparrow!
